As with most of us we have a lot to be thankful for. There are the easy ones:
- Roof over my head
Among others… Today I am most thankful that I’m smart.
I don’t think I’m particularly smart. As a matter of fact, I can point to a number of times where I’ve been downright dumb. But in general, I bet I’m smarter than most.
I’m of the belief that more people than not probably think they’re smart too. I mean, who wouldn’t? The problem though, is that most people think they’re good drivers too. Newsflash… you’re not.
I am thankful that I can figure things out. I’m a computer programmer/software architect by trade. There is a lot of information available about the mechanics of programming. That’s the science of it. Being able to put pieces together though, that’s the art of it. I am thankful I can “intellect” my way through things. You just decompose a problem down into manageable pieces. For some people, they have to work really hard at it. For others, they just can’t get it. I’m thankful that it comes naturally to me.
I’m thankful that I can see through the bullsh!t of people that are trying to take advantage of me. Too many people fall for scams that just don’t make sense! I’m not even talking about identity theft or phone scams. And it goes beyond just “if it sounds too good to be true it probably is”. Some things just don’t add up. I am thankful that I can put those things together quickly and avoid problems before they start.
I’m not going to say that I can just figure everything out. I’m not going to say I’ll never fall for a scam or anything. That would be dumb. I’m also not going to say I won’t do dumb things. Some of the most fun times I’ve ever had have been doing dumb things. But I am thankful that I know the difference.
If you’re reading this blog, then likely you’re smart too.
