As ToadMama rightly points out, having just one best friend is a little weird. Perhaps when I was little and didn’t know very many people I would have said “Brett is my best friend” and meant it. But now-a-days, I know so many more people. I don’t like any one of them to the exclusion of the others.
That being said, there are a few that I do consider to be “among my very best friends”.
My friend Adam is first on the list. I first met him in 4th (or 5th) grade soccer. We went to different schools but met up again in middle school. We were friends at that point but eventually, in high school, became really good friends. This is the kind of friend that I would happily get out of bed at 2:00 in the morning to go pick up from a bar to make sure he got home safe and sound. I went to his wedding, he was at mine. I have been to his parents funerals and he’ll be at my parents when they pass as well. Adam is really a stand up guy and I count myself lucky to know him.
Another one of my very best friends is Micah. I met Micah in college. I had joined Delta Sigma Pi as a freshman. Micah joined a year later. Micah has the kind of personality that politicians have. Not a slimey scuz bag, but the kind of personality that makes you feel like you are the only person in the room when he’s talking to you. He is very engaging and boisterous. He is really smart and challenges me. We have had some of the best times together and knowing him has helped shape me into who I am today. He doesn’t live around me so I don’t see him as often as I’d like but I try to visit at least a couple times a year. Micah is godfather to one of my kids and was best man at my wedding.
I have many other friends that I would do anything for, but these two… these are the ones that come to mind immediately when I think of “my best friends”.
